It is a cost-effective way of generating traffic to your website or app, and if set up correctly, can be an excellent tool for monetizing and increasing revenue. 


On Bing and Google, you can target people based on what they search for.  So you know that they already have some interest in your product or service. 

Similarly, you can do PPC ads that target people based on interest in places like YouTube, Twitter, and Reddit. 

Facebook offers additional levels of targeting because of how much they know about their users.  You can include targeting on demographic info, as well as things that they like. 

On social networks, the ads are often price per engagement (PPE) instead of PPC.
